I hope this letter finds you well. As a student at Oakland School for

the Arts (OSA), I have a fantastic opportunity to travel this summer to

Latin America through a leadership program called Global Glimpse!

This experience is important to me because when I attend college, I

want to be a student in the medical field as a traveling pediatrician. I

think that working for and experiencing different cultures will help me

get closer to my dream, responsibly. When I heard about the

opportunity to learn and see another country with Global Glimpse, I

knew that I could expand my global awareness infinitely this summer,

grow in my leadership skills, and become a stronger candidate for

college.

Through the program, I will travel with a group of students from

different schools to the Dominican Republic this summer, to learn

more about leadership as part of a global community. I will have an

opportunity to meet local leaders and spend time with community

members to better understand Dominican Republic life and

perspective. As part of Global Glimpse, I will also have the chance to

participate in 20 hours of service learning by partnering with a local

organization in a sustainable service project. I know this will be a

really amazing experience, and I am excited to see how my

perspective and view of the world change after my time abroad. I

hope that immersing myself in another culture can help me have a

greater understanding and idea of what others experience on a day-

to-day basis. As we all know, this is an imperative trait to being a

leader.

The reason I’m writing to you is to humbly ask for a donation to help

contribute towards the tuition for my trip, as I can only accomplish

this through the power of community. My ultimate goal is 4,000 USD.
